A bit about me
A large part of my childhood was spent performing on stage, which meant I was able to start playing around with make-up from a very young age, which included covering myself from head-to-toe in glitter! My parents also owned a fancy dress shop, stocking lots of theatrical make-up, which was completely amazing. One I reached adulthood, the desire to ‘play’ was still there and after attending a few short courses, for fun, and over a period of 20 years or more, my hobby developed into a life-long passion and career. When I was at school and college I dreamed of one day being able to say, “I’m a Make-up Artist” when people asked me what I did for a living and I’m so lucky to be able to say that for real now with the added bonus of being able to style hair too!
I was fortunate enough to train at the highly acclaimed Bath Academy of Media Make-up, of which Oscar Winning make-up designer, Peter King, is a Creative Director. He won the prestigious award in 2004 for The Lord of the Rings so to learn my profession at an academy that he is such a big part of was fantastic.
I have a real love of all things hair and make-up, but I decided to specialise in the bridal sector. The looks you can create for a bride on her special day are so diverse, ranging from classic to vintage, which keeps it interesting, but I absolutely love meeting lots of different people and being a part of the build-up to the big day. It’s a real privilege to be involved in the behind-the-scenes activity before the ceremony and all the emotions that are often flying around too! Weddings are always magical, no matter how small or large the budget and guest list, and it never feels like work to me, especially when I get to visit so many stunning locations.
I do everything I can to make people feel comfortable and at ease – I want them to enjoy the experience. Especially on the morning of a wedding, I try to help the bride forget about her nerves momentarily and enjoy being pampered. Whether she wants to chat or just sit and be calm, I’ll always take her lead. It’s also so important to me that my clients are truly happy with the final result and they still feel like themselves (on a really brilliant day!). I use make-up to enhance what is already there, not to cover up and mask the face beneath.
Whilst bridal make-up and hair is my main passion I also offer my services for TV and film (to include some special fx), editorial photo shoots and special occasions as well as offering private makeup tutorials and skincare advice. After all, they say variety is the spice of life!
I grew up, and still live, in Bath with my husband and two children. It’s such a beautiful city with many lovely wedding venues that I’ve been fortunate enough to visit, but I’m more than happy to travel further afield, including internationally.
Passionate, professional and dedicated would best describe my approach. I take great pride in what I do and I simply love it!
Everyone said how beautiful I looked. Thanks Leanna for doing my wedding hair and make-up. It was perfect!Doris
I just wanted to say a massive thank you to Leanna for doing my hair and make-up for my wedding. I originally wasn’t sure whether to have someone do my make-up as I wasn’t sure if it would be to my liking, but Leanna really listened to everything that I wanted, and I felt like me with the knowledge that it would last all day! It was also nice to have a bit of pampering in the morning and Leanna was great at keeping everything relaxed and calm. I really did have the most amazing day so thank you!Jo
Leanna worked magic with my hair and make-up for my wedding and it was lovely chatting with her…in fact it was the perfect way to while away my last few hours of freedom!Vicky
